List of per- Came the honoble Robr Smith Esqr pursuant to the sons prsented by Esqr Ordr of this Board and presented the following List Smith for of Names, by him recommended to be appointed Justices &Ca Commissioners for Talbot County, Vizt Capt James
Whitehall Murphey, Mr William ffinney, Mr Edward LLoyd, Mr Robert Goldesborough, Mr Thomas Bowdie, Mr William Hemsley, Mr Richard Tilghman, Mr Robert Macklin Mr Hugh Sherwood, Mr Thomas Robins junr Mr John Coppage & Mr Mathew Smith; Ordered tht the same be Commissionated accordingly, and that in Order thereto a Commission of the peace & for Tryall of Causes issue forth of the Secretaries Office, consti tuting & appointing the ffive first persons aforenamed to be of the Quorum.
Mr Sollici- Came Capt William Dent his Mats Sollicitor Genll and made motion on behalfe of his Maty that John touching Valliant, who was now brought here in custody of the
John Valliant & Ordr Ordr Sherriff did detain in his hands the Records of Tal mde for Commitmt &ca bot County Court, being a person not qualifyed to mitmt m C Act as Clerk, neither by Commission from the
honoble Sr Thomas Laurence Baronet Secretary, nor other legall Authority; as also keeps the Book of ffees and puts Whitehall them into private hands to receive, therefore prayed that for the same & other illegall matters he had to bring against him the said Valliant might be committed into the custody of the Sherriff of Talbot County, there to remain vntil he shall thence be delivered by due course of Law; And further Ordered that the said Sherriff take into his possession the severall Record Books, Book of ffees, and all manner of papers & writings belonging to the said County Court, and that he make a List p. 269 of the same & search the said Valliants house or other sus pected places, where he supposes any such Books or Writings may lye lodged, and deliver the said severall Books & papers vnto the Clerk by Ordr now to be Commissionated: And Whereas information hath been made by Robert Mason Esqr (Attorney of Sr Thomas Laurence Baront Secretary) that Mr John Salter of Talbot County aforesd has taken upon him to Collect severall of the aforementioned ffees & has actually received severall Sumes of Tobo thereby Accruing, and that severall other persons have by the sd Valliant, been imployed in the like nature, to the great damage of the said Sr Thomas; therefore prayed Redress therein; Ordered likewise therevpon that the said Sherriff give publick notice & forwarn all persons within his County from either paying any of the said ffees to Valliant or receiving thereof for the sd Valliants Use; but that
