                  October the 18th 1695     Lib. H. D.

   

      Then came before his Exncy in Councill the above named

    Capt Richard Hill jung pursuant to an Ordr of this Board of

    the 9th of Octobr instant & brought Benjamin Haistead his

    first Mate, Edward Dorsey second Mate, John Newall Boats

    wain, Edward Sampson Gunner & three Saylers; Whereupon

    Capt Beverleys Letter together with the said Hills answer

    thereto being Read, the said Officers & Sailers do say &

    affirm that the sd Answer of Richard Hill their Master is

    truth & nothing but the truth.

   

             Wednesday October the 9th 1695.

   

    The Councill again Sate & were present as Yesterday, p. 244

            except the honoble Coll Henry Jowles.

   

      Vpon Motion of the honoble Coll John Courts the following

    Letter was Ordered to be Entred, Vizt.

   

                          Boston 2d September, 1695.

    Mr John Courts, Sr.

    Lre from I Received yours of the 14th August & have

    Ld. observed the contents thereof for answer know that

           Henry Hill Master of the Briganteen ffriendship

    Arrived safe at New Castle some time in August last as I

    vnderstand, being chaced into the North of Scotland by a

    ffrench privateer before that where he was forced to lye three

    Weeks or upwards, not daring to come out; I have not yet

    had a Line from himself, neither his Wife nor Mr Bridghom,

    but have had severall from my Correspondents about him, one

    from Mr John Hill Merchant in London that he had accepted

    his Bills from New Castle for 250 l Money for paymt their

    Mats Duties &Ca after he had Cleared at New Castle he went

    from thence to Hull & there lay waiting for Convoy to Holland

    while the latter end of November or begining of December

    so that it was December before he got to Holland where he

    lay all Winter froze vp in the Ice. About Eight dayes ago

    Arrived a ship from London, brings advice that he was at

    Dover clearing and vnderstand he was come from thence to

    the Isle of Weight to wait for Convoy which expected to

    Sayle about three Weeks after they came away so that expect

    he may be here some time this Month or next and hope he

    will bring his Certificate with him for Clearing the Bond, he

    is greatly to blame for not taking care to send it you p way of

    London & also for not writing to his Owners. I am with Mr

    Bridghom concerned in a Vessell designed to Potomock River
