Complaints & other advice received) it is made apparent that the Trade of this Province is much impared & Damnifyed by Sloops Shallops & Boates off & belonging to the province of Pensilvania Town of New castle & Territoryes thereunto belonging (they being distinct Governmts from this) which keep runing and Trading up and down wthin the severall Rivers and Creekes of this his Mats Province of Maryland, transporting their loading over land & taking in the same at the heads of Severall Rivers wthin this Province especially Bohemia & Elke Rivers, and not only so; but are frequently known to transport in Carts at the said places indifferent large Sloopes, Shallops, & Boates wthout making any report or Entrey thereof Making it likewise their Daly practice to intice away & Entertain severall Seamen belonging to Ships & ffree men & others Inhabitants of this Province under Specious pretences much to the prejudice & Damage of his Mats Reve nue & the trade & Navigation of England And Forasmuch as it hath likewise been represented unto me in Councill, how that his Mats Duty for Importacon of Liquors from those parts have been much defrauded by concealing & hiding severall Runlets full of Brandy Rum & other Spirits, And wine wthin Caske pretended to be filled with Bisket and ffloore: For prevention of all wch illegall & irregular proceedings for the future, I have (by and the advice of his Mats honoble Coun cill) thought fit to publish and make known & I do hereby Accordingly Order & Comand that all Boates, Shallops, Sloops or other Vessells trading so as afd & taking in any goods Wares or Merchandizes being transported out of Pensilvania Town of Newcastle and Territoryes thereunto belonging into this Province over Land, go directly wth the Same vnto the Port of Williamstadt (formerly Oxford) or the port of Annap olis (formerly Ann Arrundell) and there make due Entry Barter Sell and Dispose of the same to their Best Advantage and in no other port or place whatsoever with in this Province, p. 199 Under penalty of seizure of all such goods Wares & Mer chandizes so as afd imported and sold contrary to the intent & meaning aforesaid, And Further that all such Boats, Shallops & Sloops, or other Vessels or any Land carriages whatsoever that for the future are or shall be Transported out of Pensil vania Town of Newcastle & Territoryes afd into this Province over Land that the ownrs Masters or Imployers of the same Give the Navall Officer of Caecill County an Acct thereof And take his permit to go to one or both of the Aforemenconed Parts Under like penalty of Seizure and of being proceeded agt according to Law hereby strictly Enjoyning and Comand ing all & Singular his Mats Collector wthin this Province their Depties & others whom it doth or may concern to Make dili
