     perusall & Satisfaction of all such Mastrs hereby Strictly Lib. H. D.

     Enjoyning the Severall Sherriffs of the province to make

     Proclamation hereof in the most publick & Convenient places

     wthin their Respective Counties. Willing & Requiring all

     persons herein any ways concerned to yeild due and ready

     Obedience hereunto as they and every of them will answer

     the Contrary at their perill.

      Given at the Port of Annapolis under the Great Seal of the

     Province this 20th day of August in the 7th year of his Mats

     Reign &ca Annoq Dom: 1695

                 God Save the King:  Fr. Nicholson

    

             His Exncy being pleased to Signify that (by his

     of his power Comission) he finds he has power to erect ports;

     in Erecting and upon Advice Recd that the Trade of this Pro

    

           vince of Maryland is much impared & damnifyed by

     him of the several Sloopes Shallops & Boates belonging to

     Imparacon .

     of the trade Pensilvania wch keep runing & trading up and down

     of this pro wthin the severall Rivers and harbours thereof, taking

    

           in their loading over land at the head of the Bay &

     Defrauding Carting indifferent large Sloopes Shallops & Boates

     his mats g from thence into this province wthout making any

     Dutyes for Report or Entry And Forasmuch as it is likewise

    

           set forth that his Mats duty for importation of

     likewise the Liquors from those parts hath been much defrauded

    

          by concealing and hiding severall quantities of

     habitants Liquors wthin Caske pretended to be filled wth bisket

    

      province &ca & fflour, And that they make it their dayly practice

     Order there- to intice tradesmen, Seamen & other persons out

  on &ca       . .

    

           of this province, Under Specious pretences & fair

     promises; Ordered thereupon that Proclamation issue to pre

     vent for the future all such illegall & irregular Methods and

     Wayes.

    

                   August the 17th 1695:

    

      Produced a Proclamation drawn up accordingly the wch

     being read was Signed by his Exncy & passed the Bread Seale

     of the Province the Tenor whereof follows in these Words

      Whereas their Mats did by their Royall Comission unto me

     Proclama- Francis Nicholson Esqr Capt Genll & Governr in

     Pensilvania full power and Authority for the Erecting of ports
