Lib. H. D. You are to give Governr Markham a Copy of the Proclama con you have Recd about the Trade of that province and to shew the same at Newcastle & Pensylvania. You are to acquaint Governr Markham concerning one David Miller who was Arrested upon his travell through Lewis Town alias Whorekill, being bound for west Jersey; the Accon brought was an Action of Assault, though the Occasion given appears to be Lawfull; for the Sherriffe of Somerset County having come to damage by the Escape of one Waples a prisonr under his Custody comanded a Con siderable number of men to goe wth him to the Indian River to take the said Waples & others wch had a hand in his Rescue, among the number of wch persons comanded this David Miller was one & for his shewing Obedience to the Kings Authority was Arrested as afd and likely to be detained a prisoner there fore you are to speake to Governr Markham that he may be discharged and pass about his Lawfull Occasions And that he give Order there be noe more disturbance or trouble given to any other their Mate Leige people of this province in like Case, you will Receive the papers touching the whole Matter, the wch you may shew Governr Markham and tell him that if a remedy is not provided this Governmt must take some other Methods August 17th 1695 Fr: Nicholson
Mr Jenckins Read a letter from Mr ffrancis Jenckins Judge of ing the Somerset County Court directed unto his Exncy bear Laws & Ordr ing Date the 10th day of July last past touching the there on &ca Laws last Enacted &ca Vizt that they had not (as yet) Received them in that County;
Ordered that inquiry be made by whom the same were sent, & that Mr Attorney Genll psecute the party detaining the same p.Coll Addi- Upon Reading a Lettr from the honoble Coll John sons Lettr touchingAddison unto his Exncy sent & directed, Dated the
23d of July last past touching a hundred Rackoon & his Exncy & ffox skins sent from the Emperror of Piscattoway as his answer a present to his Maty Whereupon his Exncy was thereon &ca pleased to acquaint the Board that he had since seen
the said Emperror and told him that neither his Maty nor him self required any present from him, But gave him to under stand that the Lord Baltemore must be paid his dues and so directed Coll Addison to redeliver to the said Emperor all the aforementioned skins.
