                     Governor Nicholsons Answers to the Governor

             Maryland of New Yorks Letter is as follows Vizt

      

       p. 144 Govr Nich-        Snt Maries City October 18th 1694

             New Yorke yr Exncies Lettr of the 24th of September past with

      

                   inclosed Papers I reck the which were communicated

             to the Councill the Eighth of October instant and so sent down

             to the house of Burgesses together wth his Mats Royall Lettr

             of the 1th of October 1692: Relating to the Assisting your

             ifrontiers &Ca agt the ifrench and Canida Indians—And that

             the state of the Whole Mater might be fully known, I caused

             the severall Lettrs and Papers passing betwixt the two

             Governmts to be Likewise laid before the House; An Answer

             whereto the inclosed paper is a Coppy; the Gentl of the

       Whitehall Council agreeing and Assenting to the Same.—The other

             inclosed paper is Coppy of the Councills Reasons why the

             fforraign Indians which came into this Governmt about two

             years agoe with intent to Settle should not be Entertained

             among Us.

              I find the Revenve of this Province to be very precarious

            and the Governmt a!togethr destitute of any banke or fund of

            Money; and which is wors is at present much in Arreares,

            therefore can do no more, Save truly to Represent the Whole

            Affaire to their Sacred Mats I am

          were sent inclosed in the Above Letter Vizt

      

         By the Burgesses of Assembly October 16th 1694

             house of Having laid before us her Mats Lettr bearing date

               Burgesses answer to the 1 1th day of October 1692: relating to the preser

             New York vacon & Assistance of their Mats Colonies of New

             proposalls

             &ca York & Albany with a certaine Quota of Men &

       Whitehall Money wth a former lettr and Scheme and also a late

            Lettr from his Exncy Coll Benjamin ifietcher Govr of that place

            with a New Scheme & Examinacon of the Maquass Indian
