B. being my self lyable to pay that Money Unless Yor Excency pleases to Honor me Wth A Lyne intimateing your right thereto I Begg an Answer by the Bearer Capt Meeck not doubting Excencis Justice in the Vindication of the payment by me made or taking effectuall Care that noe injury thereby is done to Yor Excencis most Obedt humble Servt George Plater
Answer to the S'd Letter Vizt Virginia the 31st of August 1694 Sr Edmonds Sr I received Yors of the 16th the 29th Instant wch I letter to Mr Plater would not have thought from You I presume as Whitehall soone as thought you were Satisfyed was Effectually
Answered at first in Yor Owne hands however would not Omitt this and Am This Letter was directed to Yor frend & Servant George Plater Esqr their Ed: Androse Majties Attorney Genll & Coll: of Petuxant &c.
Mr Chesel- The Humble Representation of Mr Kenelem dyns Repre- . . —. ll sentation abt Cheseldyn their Majties Comissary Gen of this Prov the Comis- ince Seting forth that he primarily wsarys Office . into the S d Office by Comission from his Excency Sr Edmond Androse and being Informed Since the Arrivall of his Excency Coll francs Nicholson that one Doctor Payne of London hath by Petit” to their Sacred Majties obtained from his Excency A Grant of the S'd Office So farr as the Laws and Constitutions of this Province will permit but that he hath no wayes as yet qualified himself or any other person according to the S'd Laws and constitutions to receive the S'd Grant or Office at the S'd Office in Maryland nor doth any Legall Comission as yet Appear Therfore prayes that the S'd Doctor p. 70 Payne may produce a legall CoThission (if any) to Supersede that of the Petitioner or that his Excency till such Comission Appear from Doctor Payne will soe far Ascertain the S'd place Unto him or any other his Excency in his wisdome shall thinke fit that so they may be Incouraged to perform the Duties the Law requires in the S'd Office wch cannot be left voyed WthOUt Occassioning great Defect of Justice.
Order abt This Board haveing well considered the Severall Comissarys Office particulars in the Representation, And forasmuch as
one of the persons deputed by the s'd Doctor Payne is dead and the other absolutely Refuses to be concerned
