       Affidavits of Benjamin Prior and Notley Tippett that they, in the
   company of Joseph Smith, enlisted in Count Pulaski's Legion, sometime
   in the month of July, 1779, being then in Charles Town, S. C. Said
   Smith is now before Richard Barnes, Lt. of St. Mary's County, taken
   up as a deserter.
             		Sworn to before Jeremiah Jordon.
       		St. Mary's County, July 26th, 1780.


                     ARMAND'S LEGION

       Colonel Armand, Marquis De La Rouerie, commissioned 10 May,
   1777.

     		 RESOLVES OF CONTINENTAL CONGRESS 10 MAY, 1777

       "Resolved, That Mons. Armand have a commission, with the rank
   of colonel, and that he be directed to repair to general Washington."
     RESOLVES OF CONTINENTAL CONGRESS 25 JUNE, 1778.

       "Resolved, That the independent corps raised by col. Armand, in
   consequence of general Washington's permission, be taken into conti
   nental pay. That general Washington be authorised to officer this
   corps with such foreign and other officers of merit as at present hold
   commissions, and who are not already and can not be annexed to other
   corps on the proposed arrangement of the army:
