ROLLS OF MARYLAND MEN IN PULASKI'S AND
ARMAND'S LEGIONS.
BRIGADIER GENERAL COUNT PULASKI
RESOLVES OF CONTINENTAL CONGRESS 15 SEPTEMBER, 1777.
"Resolved, That a commander of the horse be appointed with the
rank of a brigadier; the ballots being taken, count Pulaski was elected."
RESOLVES OF CONTINENTAL CONGRESS 28 MARCH, 1778.
"Resolved, That count Pulaski retain his rank of brigadier in the
army of the United States, and that he raise and have the command of
an independent corps to consist of 68 horse, and 200 foot, the horse to
be armed with lances, and the foot to be equipped in the manner of light
infantry: the corps to be raised in such way and composed of such
men as general Washington shall think expedient and proper; and if
it shall be thought by general Washington that it will not be injurious
to the service, that he have liberty to dispense, in this particular instance,
with the resolve of Congress against enlisting deserters."
RESOLVES OF CONTINENTAL CONGRESS 6 APRIL, 1778.
"Resolved That, if any of the states in which brigadier
Pulaski shall recruit for his legion, shall give to persons inlisting in the
same for three years, or during the war, the bounty allowed by the state
in addition to the continental bounty, the men so furnished not being
the inhabitants of any other of the United States, shall be credited to the
quota of the state in which they shall be inlisted."
RESOLVES OF THE ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND 21 APRIL, 1778.
"Resolved, That the governor and council be authorized and em
powered to assist brigadier-general Pulaski in recruiting for his legion;
and that all persons enlisting in the same (not being inhabitants of
any other of the United States) for three years or during the war, shall
be allowed the bounty given by act of assembly to soldiers enlisting for
three years or during the war, and shall be credited to the proportion of
the county where such recruits shall have last resided; and such recruits
shall not be subject to be draughted under the late act for procuring
troops for the American army. That the said recruits be passed by the
lieutenant of the county wherein they shall be enlisted, who shall keep
an account of all such recruits."
