Dominions whatsoever, And of all & singular our Castles,
fforts ffortresses, fortifications, munitions, shipps, and navies
in our sd Province, Islands Territoryes & Dominions aforesaid.
And him the sd Benedict Leonard Calvert wee doe make
ordeine and constitute Lievetenant Genll Chiefe Captain and
Chiefe Admirall both by Sea and Land, Chiefe Governor and
Commandr of our sd Province, Islands Territoryes, & Dominions
and of all the Castles, fforts, Navies, shipps, places, and things
aforesaid by these prsents. To have hold occupy Enjoy and
Exercise the said Office of Lievetenant Gen" Chiefe Captain,
and Chiefe Admirall, Chiefe Governor and Chiefe Commandr
as aforesaid with the appurtenances unto our sd Deare Sonn
Benedict Leonard Calvert, by his Deputyes in our absence by
us to be appointed. And wee doe likewise give and grant
unto our said Deare Sonn full power and Authority dureing
the time of his haveing holding and Enjoying the said Office
before mentioned by his Deputies and Officers by us to be
appointed to Leavy Muster and train all sorts of men of what
Condition and wheresoever borne, in our said Province and
Dominions for the time being Remaineing. And in case of
Insurrections Assaults or approaching of any Enemy or
Enemys, Pyrate or Pyrates, or other Robbers, to make warr,
and to pursue such Enemy or Enemys Pyrates or Robbers, as
well by Sea as land, and to vanquish and take them, and being

soe taken, to putt them to death by the Law of Warr, or to
save them at his plesure; And by his Depties by us to be
appointed to doe all and every thing which unto the charge
and Office of a Captain Genll of an Army, or Admirall of a
ffleete belongeth. And likewise in case of any Rebellion
Tumult or sedition either upon the land within our said Pro-
vince and Dominion or upon the Seas, to Exercise Martiall
Lawes against all Rebellious Mutinous or Seditious psons,
who shall refuse to submitt themselves to our Governmt or to
serve in the warrs, or shall flye to the Enemy, or forsake their
Ensignes, or be Loyterers, or straglers, or otherwise howso-
ever offending against the law Custom or Discipline Military,
as freely, and in as ample manner and forme as any Captn
Gen" of an Army or Admirall of a navy by vertue of his Office
might or hath accustomed to use the same; And further Wee
doe give and grant unto our said Deare Sonn full power and
authority dureing the time of his Exercise of the said Office by
his Depties by us to be appointed as aforesaid, for us and in our
name, and as often as his said Depties shall think fitting from
time to time to pardon, remitt or release whither before
Judgemt or after all and all manner of criminall Offences
against the Lawes of our sd Province and Dominions or any
of them, and also all and all manner of paines penalties and
