The humble petition of the Inhabitants of Calvert
County in the ffreshes of Pottuxen &c:
May it please your Honors
Whereas An Act was made confirmed, and Established by
his Lsps the Rt honble the Lord Propry of this Province by and
with the consent of the upper and lower house of Assembly
Intituled an Act for building of Townes in this Province of
Maryland Anno Dmi. 1683: And in the said Act divers
places in each County within this Province very fitt & coffio-
diously appointed where the sd Townes should be built and
settled to the greate ease and commodity both of us the Inhabi-
tants of this Province and of the mrchants here tradeing and
resideing amongst which, One very convenient place here in
the ffreshes of Pottuxen was in the said Act nominated and
appointed viz: on John Bolings land neare Mr Gants land: (as
may appeare by the sd Act more at large) But in a Subsequent
Assembly (by whose malitious suggestions we know not) the
aforesd commodious and convenient place at John Bolings land
was left out, and altered to a place (altogether to us inconve-
nient) upon Henry Cox's land; Wee therefore whose names
are subscribed, and divers others the Inhabitants of Pottuxen
River humbly pray your Honors due consideration in the
p'misses, And that although the sd John Bolings land be left
out, and unmentioned in the last Act of Assembly; Yett that
your Honors would be pleased, and in your wisedomes think
meete to grant us the aforementioned place at John Bolings
Land for a port of trade, to lade or unlade any of our goods
Traffick or mrchandize, and there lawfully to trade, buy sell and
mrchandize, as at any Towne within this Province without the
breach or Impeede of the said Act. And further that your
Honors would be pleased to appoint & authorize some judi-
cious persons to see the said Port equally laid out in Lotts, as
your Honors shall see convenient, And that expeditiously That
your Hono" petrs may readily build upon and fitt the said Port
for the use aforesaid, and humbly beg that it may be confirmed
to us and our heires, for a Port of tradeing, buying, selling,

mrchandizing, Loadeing or unloadeing of any goods Traffick
or mrchandizes, aswell the growth of this province, as any
other goods or Mrchandizes that shall be brought or imported.
And your Honors petrs shall as in dutty bound
