A Lettr from the Rt honble the Lord Effingham of the 11th
of ffebry 1684 concerning the Escape of Coll Talbott, together
with coppy of hue and Cry thereupon sent out by Coll Digges
deld to the Clk of the Councill to be recorded (viz)

Gentl
It hath happened that the last night Coll: Talbott escaped
out of prison, and I Judged it my part to give you notice of
it considering his Majties pleasure is not yett knowne where he
shall be tryed, that you may take speedy care that Hues and
Crys be dispatcht throughout your Province for the retakeing
him, as also that all other methods be pursued to that end; that

soe greate a murderer may not escape the hands of Justice, I
doe not question but you will ordr such strictness in your
searches that you will testifye your readiness for his Majties
Service in bringing him to condign punishment, as you have
formerly declared to

Hue and Cry after Coll. Geo. Talbott
Maryld ss:
Whereas I am credibly informed by his Exncy ffrancis Lord
Howard Baron of Effingham, Chiefe Governr and Capt Genll
of his Majties Collony of Virginia, by his Lettr beareing date
the 11th of ffebry instant, That Coll George Talbott late of this
Province (a prisoner in the said Collony thereto conveyed for
the murder of Christopher Rousby late of this Province Esqr)
on the Tenth day of ffebruary instant at night, broke from the
said prison and made his Escape, soe that he is fled from the
hand of Justice
These are therefore in the name of the Rt honble the Lord
Propry of this Province to will and require, as also strictly to
charge and command all persons within this Province, to make
diligent search and enquiry by way of hue and cry in all
places for the said Coll Talbott, and him by any waies or
meanes to apprehend, and safely to convey and bring before
the Depty Governr and Councill of this Province at the City
of St Maries, wherein all Officers both Military and civill
within this Province are hereby Commanded and required to
