. replyed he knew not the name of the Lord Propry nor would

obey any One in or undr that name, nor noe other name but
Kings, To which the sd Governors or one of them made answer
that they came in noe other name, nor by any other Authority
but what was derived from the King or words to that Effect,
and thereupon produced a Coppy of my Lords Charter, but
notwithstanding severall reasons urged for the delivery of the
said Talbott, Allen refused the delivery of him, and soe the
said Depty Governors went ashoare; afterwards the said Allen
caused me to stay to drink a bowle of punch with him, which
this Dept did; The said Allen sayed that now my Lords
Charter was not worth a pinn, and that there were a greate
many of hungry Courtiers that would jump at the news of
Rousbys death, being killed by the hands of Coll Talbott,
being a man Intrusted by my Lord, and that it was noe doubt
but they would doe my Lords business with the King, and
soone after this Dept went ashoare. After which this Dept
had occasion to goe into Virginia, and at the house of Ralph
Wormeley Esqr this Dept mett with the said Allen, and the
said Allen sayed that notwithstanding all that Maryland could
doe, he had brought Talbott along with him, This Dept
made answer none in Maryland endeavoured in the least to
hinder it, the said Allen made answer it was well they did not,
for if any had, he would not spare man woman nor child, but
lay the whole Countrey desolate, and further the said Allen

sayed he doubted not but that he would bring Maryland under
that Governmt of Virginia, This Dept made answer that it
would be well for the said Allen to govern his tongue now he
was on shore, for although he huff'd people on board, he must
not expect to doe soe on shoare, upon wch discourse Allen
became very friendly and kind in all Offices of kindness to me,
and further saith not

Thomas Jones of Sommrsett County in the Province of Mary-
land Pltr aged three and ffourty yeares or thereabouts upon
oath examined saith and Deposeth as foll (viz.)
That the thirtyeth day of October last past he this Deponent
being in a small Shallop of his owne, in the Bay of Chesepeake
neere against the house of Mr Thomas Courtney, and within
the bounds of this Province of Maryland, there came on board
him a boate belonging to a mann of Warr Ketch Capt Thomas
Allen Command' (as he hath since been informed) and com-
manded him the Dept on board the said Ketch whereto he
pleaded that he had noe person else on board him that could
