The Deposition of Joan Lewis aged 28 yeares Saith that
she see Joan Kirke beate Edward ffurlong soe much that the
blood runn downe from his face and hands, saying that it was
noe more sinn to kill him, then to kill an old dog, and further
called for a rope to hang him; I after see the said Edward
ffurlong when he was brought home from running away, that
as he came in at the doore he fell downe of his knees, and
ask'd Joan Kirk forgiveness, saying he would doe soe noe
more

The Deposition of William Lewis aged 28 yeares saith That
the last Spring your Dept was at John Kirks house, where
understanding that Edward ffurlong had absented himself six
or seaven daies, the said John Kirk and his ffamily requested
me to goe help to search for him, and haveing found him, we
carried him to John Kirks, and when he came there, Joan
Kirk asked him what reason he had to runn away, with that
she called for a rope, and said she would hang him, whereupon
the said ffurlong went downe upon his knees, and askt her
forgiveness, and further saith not

The Deposition of John Starling 46 yeares old. Saith that
about three yeares agoe Edward ffurlong was at yor Depts
house, and being laid downe upon straw, he requested me to
fetch his bed from his house, which was done, but soone after
John Kirk sent his boy for it, and sometime after ffurlong
went to Kirks, where he stayed about three weekes, then

returned back to your Depts house, where he gott some
victualls, and as he had done eateing, he said, oh John I have
eaten more with you at this time, then I have done this three
weekes at John Kirkes house, and he further said, before he
went to Kirks again he would be drawne in peices with wild
horses, & further saith not
