Liber R.

Countrey, the said Capt. Brandt and other the Inferiour Officers
and Souldiers of the sd Troope be free in their persons and
Estates off and from all & all manner of Arrests and Attachmts
whatsoever, provided they make over unto their Creditors (for
security of their Debts) what pay shall accrue or grow due
unto them for such their Service soe farr forth as the same
will amount unto towards Satisfaction of their said Debts with
due reguard had to Sufficient ffood & raiment with other
necessaryes whereby to subsist without leaveing themselves
and ffamilys wholly destitute. It is also Ordered that upon
the discovery or approach of any the said Indians or other
Enemy Captn Randolph Brandt call and take to his assistance
about twenty or thirty of the Pascattoway Indians (as he shall
think fitt) to march with him in discovery or pursuite of the
said Enemy placeing in their Roome & stead the like number
of English ffoote Souldiers (well provided with provision
Armes and Ammunition in all respects as is requisite for gar-
rison Souldiers to be at the charge of the Province under such
Commander as his Lspp shall think fitt to appoint) to remaine
in the ffort for the protection of their Old Men Wives and
Children dureing such time as they shall continue with the
troope. And that the Choptico Indians be required to joine
themselves with the Pascattoway or Nanjemaick Indians in
one of their fforts if they expect protection from the English.
Ordered also that (if occasion Require) another Troope of
horse be sett forth out of St Maries or Calvert County for the
Defence of the Inhabitants of the said Counties, or to assist
Captn Brandt upon the approach of the Enemy as aforesaid.
Ordered also that John Lemaire of Charles County be and he
is hereby appointed Chyrurgion to Capt. Brandts Troope, and
is hereby also charged and commanded to give his constant
attendance when and as often as occasion shall require.
Ordered also that for all such ffoote Souldiers as shall now or
at any time hereafter be thought necessary to be raised for the
further Security and Defence of the Inhabitants of the said

County or else where in the Province Sufficient provisions be
pressed for them (to be paid and Satisfied for out of the
publick leavy of this Province) dureing such time as they shall
be employed in the service of the Countrey as aforesaid.

It was the Opinion of the board being demanded by his
Lspp that (noe pay being ascertained by Act of Assembly for
Dragooners) it were not convenient to raise or sett out any
such but that rather (if occasion should require) another
Troope be sett forth out of St Maries or Calvert County for
