hereby power and Authority, upon such their remissness, care-

lessness, & negligences, in their places, or upon their insolent
rude and disrespectfull carriage and comportment towards
your Selves or any other our Deputies Commissionr and
Councill to remoove them from their respective places and
Offices, and others in their roome and places to appoint, untill
you shall heare and understand our further pleasure therein
2dly That care be taken for the speedy repaireing the
Court house, at St Maries, at least that such repaires be forth-
with made, as may be sufficient to secure the Records of our
severall Offices, for we are very apprehensive that whilest the
Offices are kept at Mr Lynes his house, through the careless-
ness of Clerks the Records may be destroyed by fire
3dly To call upon our Attorney gen" to prosecute such
Priests Ministers and Magistrates as presume to joine persons
in wedlock contrary to the Laws of our Province.
Given under our hand and Seale at Armes this 24th of May
1684:

By the Depties Lievetents
Maryland ss. A Proclamation

Whereas It hath been the constant & known practice of
divers the Inhabitants of this Province, and others tradeing
hither to buy and ingross into their hands vast Quantityes of
English and Indian Corne in ordr to export the same upon
Mrchandize out of this Province into other parts, to the greate
damage and Inconveniency of others the Inhabitants of this
Province, not onely by Inhanceing the rates and prices thereof
among themselves, but oftentimes by createing such a generall
want and scarceity thereof, that sufficient for the maintenance
of themselves and ffamilys has not thereupon been to be pro-
cured; And whereas the unseasonableness of this present
yeare will in all probability render both Wheate and Indian

Corne very scarce within this Province for the yeare ensueing
as from the generall rumor and report we have heard and
reed: Wee haveing therefore in Councill consulted and
debated the same have thought fitt, and wee doe hereby
strictly prohibitt & forbidd all and singular the Inhabitants
and good people of this Province of what degree or Quality
soever, upon any colour or pretence whatsoever to sell or
otherwise dispose off to any Mrchant or Master of Shipp or
Vessell, or other person whatsoever, or to load or putt on
board any Shipp or Vessell any wheate or Indian Corne of
any Quantity whatsoever to be exported out of this Province
