vince, And to the End that justice and equity may be duely
and impartially administred to all and every person and
persons, Bodies politick and Corporate of and within our Pro-
vince of Maryland aforesaid, We have Constituted assigned
and appointed, and doe hereby constitute Assigne and appoint
our trusty and well beloved Henry Coursey Esq^r to be our
Chiefe Justice of our Provinciall Court of our said Province of
Maryland dureing our pleasure, aswell for the holding of all
pleas touching and relateing to the conservation of us, and the
Conservation of the peace of our s^d Province as for the hold-
ing of pleas touching our rights and revenues, and for Common
pleas, and likewise for the determineing of all matters of
Equity, for which any releife is shall or may be Justly or reason-
ably desired in our said Court: And whereas wee have like-
wise constituted assigned and appointed, and doe by these
p^rsents constitute assigne and appoint, our trusty and well
beloved Councello^r Coll Thomas Taillor, our trusty and well
beloved Coll Vincent Lowe, our trusty and well beloved Coll
Henry Darnall, our trusty and well beloved Coll W^m Digges,
our trusty and well beloved Coll William Stevens, our trusty
and well beloved Coll William Burges, our trusty and well
beloved Maj^r Nicholas Sewall Esq^r our trusty and well beloved
John Darnall Esq^r our trusty and well beloved Edward Pye
Esq^r and our trusty and well beloved Maj^r Thomas Trueman
Esq^r to be Justices of our said Court for the holding the Pleas
aforesaid, and for Determineing of Matters of Equity afore-
said dureing our pleasure; Willing and by these p^rsents
assigneing Constituteing and appointing that our said Chiefe
Justice, and our said Justices, or any four or more of them (of
which our said trusty and well beloved Henry Coursey Esq^r
our trusty and well beloved Councellor Thomas Taillor Esq^r
Vincent Lowe Esq^r Henry Darnall Esq^r or One of them to be
alwaies One) shall be a sufficient Court for the determineing
the pleas and matters of Equity aforesaid: Wee Doe hereby
require and Command you and every of you in and upon the
faith and fidelity which you owe and in which you stand bound
and holden unto us, firmly enjoyning that in all thinges touching
the Office and Offices of Justice and Justices aforesaid, and to
the conservation of us, our peace, and the peace of our s^d
Province to be fully and wholly Obedient and assisting unto
our s^d Chiefe Justice and Justices respectively.
Witness Our Self at Mattapony Sewall this first day of May
in the nineth yeare of our Dominion over our Province of
Maryland, and in the yeare of our Lord God One thousand
six hundred Eighty and ffoure.
