Indians. Ababco for himself and his greate men undertake
and engage what is before required.
Ind: They lye under great apprehensions of ffeare from
the Northern Indians, upon the returne of Ababcos daughter
from thence, wherefore they desire leave to remoove to
Askimonokonson ridge for some time if they see occasion, and
that the land where they now live may be preserved and
secured for them to returne unto, when they shall think fitt.
Answr His Lspp: well resents their adviseing him of their
inclinations to remoove, and give his free consent thereunto,
but hopes they will have noe occasion, however doth assure
them that their Land shall be safely reserved for them, when
ever they shall think fitt to returne.
Command given to the Sheriff of St Maries County to bring
before this board the Indian prisoner in his custody, causeing
his Irons to be knock'd off at the doore before he be brought
in accordingly the said Sheriff presented his prisoner to this
board and he is released and surrendred up to King Ababco
being first informed and made sensible of the engagemt made
by the said Ababco and his greate men for his releasemt
King Ababco receives the prisoner with greate Testimonyes
and expressions of thankes and acknowledgemt to his Lspp for
his extraordinary favour and kindness therein
John Pearsons of St Maries County appointed by his Lspp a
Messenger to attend this board upon all occasions.
Memdu his Lspp haveing granted unto the honble Coll George
Talbott severall Commissions and Instructions upon severall
occasions, as also a Comon to George Oldfeild to be County
Attorney in Cecil County all beareing date the 19th Day of
March 1683: The same his Lsp ordered should be entred
upon Record in this Booke viz.

Whereas it hath been alwaies our intent to strengthen &
fortifie the Northern parts of this our Province of Maryland,
the better to Enable the Inhabitants thereof to resist the Inva-
sion and outrages of the Northern Indians, And whereas
wee have two Manno" in New Ireland in Cecil County each
called Baltemore Mannor lyeing betweene Elk River, and
North East (als Shermor) River, which if well seated would
conduce much to the strength and conveniency of the neigh-
