Court, ffurther order that the Sheriff take him into safe
custody and with convenient speed deliver him to the high
Sheriff of St Maries County.

Ababco King Audience.

At the said Two and Twentieth day of March 1683 pre-
sented himself and had audience before this board Ababco
one of the Indian Kings of Choptank, haveing with him one
of his greate men together also with Nicholas Hackett, who
was admitted as Interpreter.

Proportions & Answers

The Interpreter ordered to lett them know that his Lsp hath
much business to doe, and butt little time to spend, desires
them therefore to be briefe in what they had to offer.
Indians. They say that they had assurance given them by
Coll Coursey and Coll Lloyd that their Indians taken prisoners
and carried away the last yeare by the Sinniquos should be all
returned. — of which they find noe pformance.
Answer, ffourteene of them are already returned, and wee
doe not know, but have good reason to beleive that the rest
of their prisoners upon the same grounds will (if themselves
please) have liberty to returne however the Governor of New
York shall be requested to moove those Indians fully to
comply with their Articles with us in makeing full restitution
of their prisoners.
Ind: They say that the Indian prisoner now in custody of
the English under the sentence of banishmt was not condemned
thereunto by Coll Coursey but by Coll Lloyd onely, and they
conceive it somewhat hard that the judgemt should be putt in
execution, some of their Indians, (the greate man now present
for one) haveing been formerly shott by the English, and noe
such care ever taken for their satisfaction, they desire his Lsp:
will please to deliver him up to them, upon good security to
be given by some of their greate men.
Answ: To Gratifie Ababco's request his Lsp: is willing to
release unto them their Indian prisoner. He the said Ababco
with the rest of his greate men undertakeing and engageing
for his future good behaviour, and that neither he nor any
other of their Indians shall hereafter offer any injury or make
any attempt upon any his Lsps good people, but that they will
take the same effectuall care to keepe their Indians from
drinking strong liquors, as his Lspp hath taken to keepe strong
drink from being sold to them.
