should attempt to disturb or seize the persons Cattle or

goods of any person or persons there already under
our Governmt or willing to embrace the same in manner
aforesaid, You are then immediately to acquaint the said
William Penn therewith, and demand Satisfaction of him to be
made by the party offending, which undoubtedly (if the same
be done without his Direction knowledge or consent) he will
most readily grant you; But in case you find and shall be well
Satisfied that it is done by his ordr or Countenance, you may
then seeke your owne Satisfaction as neere as may be by
retalliateing the same injury and damage upon your next
neighbours Inhabitants under his Governmt & Dominion,
but with as much prudence and moderation as the Case will
Admitt.
5: And that you may prevent the Incroaching of the
Inhabitants of Pen-Sylvania upon this our Province, and their
Infesting the people under us, you are to use your greatest
care skill & Industry to procure the Seateing the uppermost
parts thereof, as neare as may be to the ffourtieth degree,
which will be a meanes possibly to prevent their comeing
further downe upon us.
6: And for Encouragemt of all such persons as shall under-
take to Seate, Inhabitt, and maintaine Christina Bridge, You
are willed and required and have hereby full power & Authority
given you to survey and lay out into Tenn parts or Lotts the
Quantity of One Thousand acres of Land about the said
Bridge, the same to be distributed to and amongst any Tenn
psons of Brittish or Irish descent, that will undertake and
endeavour to seate the same, to be confirmed to them their

heyres and Assignes for Ever each of them One hundred
Acres under the yearely Rent of Two shillings sterl: (Royall
Mines onely reserved as aforesaid.
7: And whereas we have heard that a certain Indian hath
publickly threatned your life (whither of his owne Inclination
or through the Instigation of others Wee know not) Wee
therefore will that you use all diligent meanes care and cun-
ning according to the best of your discretion to know the
truth thereof, and to find out the Indian who we are informed
belongeth to Delaware; which if upon Enquiry made it
appeare soe to be, you are then with all privacy Imaginable,
and with what guard you think fitt to goe to the Indian Townes
and lett that nation know that they are within our Government,
and that you are come from us to demand the Delivery up of
that Indian, to be proceeded against according to our Lawes,
which you expect from them, as an acknowledgemt of their
Subjection to us, to be renewed yearely, if they expect protec-
tion from us, or value our ffriendshipp.
