. Instructions from the Rt honble Charles absolute Lord and
Propty of Maryland and Avalon Lord Baltemore &ca To
his Deare Couzen Coll George Talbott his Lsps Surveyr
Genll of the Province of Maryld
Imprs You are to use your utmost skill and endeavour for
the Seateing and Inhabiting of the Seaboard side, Delaware
Bay and River up to the ffourtieth degree of Northern Lati-
tude, and more especially of those parts at the Whore Kills by
persons of Brittish or Irish descent.
2dly ffor the better effecting whereof and encouragemt of
all undertakers therein Wee doe authorise and Empower you,
and you have full power and Authority hereby given you by
warrant under your hand and Seale to permitt any person or
persons of the descent aforesaid to take up any Quantity or
Quantityes of Land not exceeding the number of five hundred
acres to any one pson in any the aforementioned places, he or
they paying or secureing to be paid unto us or our heires, or
such Officer or Officers as shall be appointed by us and our
heires from tyme to tyme to Collect the same, the Quantity of
One hundred pounds of Tobacco in Cask for every fifty acres,
and soe proportionably for a greater or lesser Quantity.
3: ffor all which Land soe taken up as aforesaid Wee doe for
our selves our heires and Successors covenant and agree to
and with such pson or psons as aforesaid takeing up the same,
to pass our Grant under the greate Seale of this our Province
to him or them, and his and their heires and Assignes for
Ever, in free and common Soccage by ffealty onely for all
services, under the yearely Rent of One Shilling Sterl for
every ffifty acres, with reservation only of all Royall mines (as
is used) & conditional that if such person, or persons, Grantee,
or Grantees, shall not within three yeares after such grant pay
and Satisfie unto us or our heires, or such Officer or Officers
as aforesaid the Quantity of One hundred pounds of Tobacco
2 for every ffifty acres as aforesaid, The said Grant as to him or
them refuseing, denying or longer delaying the same, shall be
to all intents and purposes void, null, and of noe effect, and
the same free and cleare for any other person or persons of
the descent aforesaid to take up under the Rents Services and
Conditions aforesaid the said former grant notwithstanding.
Provided also and it is our Intent and meaneing that each
persons particular part or Dividend of Land shall be by its
Self and pticularly granted and pattented.
4: In case you meete with any obstruction or opposition
from our neighbouring Cullony Pensilvania under the Gov-
ernmt of William Penn Esqr pretending claime to any the
places aforementioned or that any the Inhabitants thereof
