Coll Talbott threatened by Del. Indian.

Information was then given to this board by the honble Coll
George Talbott that he had been credibly advised of a certain
Delaware Indian haveing threatned his death, whereof and of
severall other pticulars he makes the following Queries and
hath answer as foll (viz.)

his severall Queries & answeres.

1 Que: What am I to doe in case of the Indians who
threatned me and how am I to learne who sett them on?
written Instructions how to proceed will be necessary
Answ. You must use your endeavor according to your dis-
cretion to find out the Indian, and when found out to secure
him & send him downe to his Lsp and Councill; and to lett
that whole nation know that they are within his Lsps Dominions
and Governmt that his Lsp expects acknowledgemt from them
and for that reason you are sent thither, or if it had been other-
wise you should have been directed to have made your appli-
cations to Another Governmt for Satisfaction.
2: Qu: In case Penn seizes the persons cattle or goods of
your Lsps people in Christina &c: or of those who shall submitt
to your Lsp: how am I to proceed for their recovery ?
Answ: In such case Penn himself to be made acquainted
therewth and to know whither the same have been acted by
his ordr or Countenance, if soe then you are to seeke Satisfac-
tion by the like proceedings against those that are next
Seated to this Province under Penns Governmt but if Penn
disavow the same he will doubtless cause Satisfaction to be
made by the party offending, if not proceed as before.
3 Qu: In case Penn builds houses close by ours to block us
up shall I permitt such houses to be built or not ? and if not
what effectual means shall I vse to hinder them ?
Answ. Lett Encouragemt be given to all people to seate
as high as they cann under his Lsp: which will be a meanes to
prevent them from comeing Lower.
4 Qu: What course must I take with the Christina Indians
on Maryland side of the lyne 40 to cause them to owne yor
Lsps power, or hinder their hunting in Maryland.
Answ: The last Querie is answered in the first answer.
All wch foregoeing Queries and answers and other neces-
sary particulars are resolved and Included in the foll Instruc-
tions.
