Gerard the Attorney of the sd Slye therewith, who sent one
Samuel Dobson with your Petr to fetch home the sd Servant,
but before your Pet' and the sd Dobson came home, the sd
Servant was again runn away from your Petrs house soe that
he could not deliver him to the said Dobson; all which your
Petr did make appeare at the tryall by the said Dobsons oath,
notwithstanding which the Jury found against him the whole
summe layd in the Declaration amounting to Tenn Thousand
five hundred pounds of Tobacco in manner aforesaid; which
being more then your Pett is worth in all the world, will be
the totall ruine of him & his Six small Children. And your
Pef well knowing the sd Gerard Slye & Thomas Gerard his
Attorney here, to be men of like temper without mercy
toward any poore Debtr but alwaies extorting the uttermost
farthing, hath noe hope to be abated any part of the sd
Judgemt by them

Therefore your poore Petr most humbly beseecheth your
Lspp of your owne goodness to release unto him such pt of
your Ldsps moiety of the said Judgemt as your Lsp in charity
shall think fitt, considering the poverty of your Petr and his
greate charge of Children, soe that the said Gerrard Slye may
leavy noe more by any writt of Execution then the moiety
adjudged him and his costs, which act of Charity will save
your petr from being throwne in prison to his totall ruin; and
at least continue him & his poore children to breath freely,
and Offer up their daily prayers to heaven for your Lsps long
life health and prosperity &ca

thus answered (viz)

By the Lord Propry & Councill
The moiety of his Lspps part of the fine awarded by the
honble the Justices of the Provinciall Court against John King
of Calvert County is this day remitted by his Lspp in Councill,
whereof the Sheriff of the said County is to take cognizance
soe as not to leavy the same. Signed p ordr

The humble Petition of Thomas Pue
Sheweth
That your Petr being employed in publick service of the
Province was last yeare allowed by the publick 8000l: tobo &
this yeare 6000l tobo and ordered to be paid in Calvert
County Coll Jowles sheriff. But soe it is that your petr
neither last yeare nor this yeare cann by any meanes receive
