wise dispose of to any Indian or Indians whatsoever any

Brandy Rumm or other strong liquors dureing such tyme as
such Indian or Indians shall be in or about any English planta-
tion or house within this Province or at any other place what-
soever except at such Indian Townes places or Quarters
where such Indian or Indians are seated and Inhabited upon
any pretence whatsoever, any Commission warrant or lycense
to trade with the Indians heretofore granted to the contrary
hereof in any wise notwithstanding; Whereof Wee will that
all psons concerned take due cognizance and be obedient
hereunto as they will answer the contrary at their perill by
incurring our displeasure to be inflicted on them by such
waies and meanes as wee shall think fitt according to Law.
And to the End that this our Will and pleasure may the better
be published & made knowne Wee doe hereby strictly charge
and command all and singular the Sheriffes of this our Pro-
vince forthwith upon receipt hereof to make publick Proclama-
tion hereof in the most publick and convenient places within
their severall and respective Counties. Given under the
greate Seale of our sd Province of Maryland the nine and
Twentieth Day of December in the nineth yeare of our
Dominion &c. Annoq Dmi. 1683:

[Export of Grain.]

By the Lord Propry a Proclamation
fforasmuch as the usuall custome and practice of diverse the
Inhabitants of this Province to sell and dispose of greate
Quantitys of Corne and other provisions to Mrchants and
Masters of Shipps and Vessells, and other psons fforreignors
tradeing into this Province to be by them exported out of this
Province, hath oftentimes prooved of very ill consequence, and
greate damage and Inconveniency to the Inhabitants of this
Province occasioned by the greate Scarceity and want thereof
for the necessary Sustenance of themselves and ffamilyes and
inhanceing the rates and prices thereof thereupon ensueing ;
And whereas it hath pleased God by the late greate Storme
and Stress of weather happening within this Province in the

moneth of August last, and other casualties not onely to lessen
the greate Quantitys of Indian corne and wheate (as well as
other sorts of graine) most likely to have been made within
this Province this present yeare, whereby the Inhabitants of
this Province might in all probability have supplyed them-
selves and other our Neighbouring Collonies and plantations,
had their faire hopes and expectations of a plentifull crop
succeeded; but contrarily the same hath been soe fatall and
