you are also to advise the King of Mattawoman that he with
his Indians may (as himself hath mooved) Repaire to the
Zachaja ffort for protection under the English; You must
likewise make acquainted therewith all the Inhabitants on the
ffrontires and Outer Plantations of your County that they be
and stand continually upon their guard, lest phaps the Northern
Indians enraged at this kindness or Countenance showne to
our Neighbour Indians be exasperated to take their Oportu-
nity of Revenge upon the English Themselves; In which
case, or of any insolency outrage or attempt by the sd Northern
Indians offered done or Committed you are to putt in Execu-
tion your Commission and Instructions already given you to
the utmost of your strength power and ability for the defence
Safeguard and protection of the Inhabitants of your County
and our sd ffriend Indians according to the best of your Dis-
cretion and the tenor of your sd Instruccons

At a Councill held at the honble the Chancelors house at St
Peters the 30th Day of August Anno Dmi. 1682:

f Philip Calvert Esqr Chancelor
The honble Coll Henry Coursey

Information given by Coll Henry Coursey and Coll Phile-
mon Lloyd late Agents for this Province to the Northern
Indians at ffort Albany that Jacob Young (according to sev-
erall reasons and Circumstances) held to greate Correspon-
dency with those Indians and was privy too if not occasion of
several injuries Received from those Indians and highly sus-
pected to be conscious also if not the maine cause of some
murders by them Committed on some of the Inhabitants of
this Province not long since. It was therefore ordered that
precept be directed to the Sheriff of Cecill County Command-
ing him to apprehend the sd Young and have him before his
Ldspp and Councill with all convenient speed under a Safe
guard, and that a Monitory Letter be also writt to the sd
Sheriff Requireing his Secrecy and prudence in the Execution
of the sd precept that he no waies faile thereof wch precept and
Letter follow in these words (viz)
