I would write to your Ldsp about them, and that they should
have an answer to their Demands at the returne thereof.
Upon those promises they went home again, and promised to
stay untill the returne of the Post for your Ldspps answer; like-
wise here came last night the Speaker of the Zachaja ffort,
and said that the Young Emperor sent him to tell me that he
had about Sixty or Seaventy Deare Skinns to present to your
Ldspp but is afraid to leave the ffort soe long as to come downe
and therefore requests that there may be some few English in

the ffort to guard their wives and Children, whitest he and
some other of them come downe to your Ldspp haveing
besides the present some other business to your Ldspp: I
promised him to write to your Ldspp about it, and give them
an answer at the returne of the Post.
Owen Newen saies that your Ldspp ordered that I should pay
him tor his black horse wch your Ldspp had of him in wild
horses, but doth not know what or how much therefore
request that your Ldspp will please to lett me know how many
he must have, because he sayes he was to have more then One
for him. Wch is all at present from

Wch Letter his Ldspp haveing Communicated to the honble the
Chancelor and consulted with him thereon Returnes answer
thereunto in this following ordr (viz:)

Coll Chandler.
I Received your Letter of Yesterdays date purporting the
necessitous condition of our ffriend Indians in your County in
relation to the Northern Indians of whom they stand in daily
feare (almost to despair) wch may force them to Surrender to
the Enemy; The whole I have well considered, and the dang-
erous ill Consequencies thereof attending, and to prevent(if pos-
sible) the further progress thereof have thought convenient to
Assist them with some men for the guard of their weomen and
Children as is desired; And doe therefore ordr you forthwith
upon Receipt hereof to Select out of your Regiment Twenty
able men well provided with Armes and Ammunition to be
drawne up to the Zachaia ffort there to remaine as a standing
guard, or to be releived by the like number of ffresh men at
certain tymes as to you shall seeme meete, and accordingly as
you shall find them qualified for that purpose, to be con-
stantly supplyed with provisions Sufficient accordingly and in
such manner as the Act of Assembly in such Cases hath pro-
vided, and to be Commanded by such of your Officers as you
shall appoint and think most proper for that purpose; whereof
