give notice to that Governor that you are there arrived with a
Comission from his Ldspp to lay out the line according to
appointmt
2dly Upon the arriveall of the Governor there or other
person or persons as aforesd Empowered, you are before you
proceed to your business in charge, first to Require a view of
their Credentialls or Commission which you are carefully to
peruse & consider whither the same doth sufficiently
Empower him or them from William Penn Esqr soe as to con-
clude him by what shall be then and there agreed on betweene
you as fully amply and largely to all intents and purposes as by
your Commission yu are empowered to conclude his Ldspp which
you are then for their satisfaction to produce to them in like
manner

3dly In case such Governor or other person or persons
thereunto appointed as aforsd upon notice given them shall
deny to come thither according to appointmt or upon their
arriveall there shall refuse to take observation and lay out the
line aforesaid or shall not agree therein, as shall appeare not
to be sufficiently empowered in manner aforesaid, then you
are by yourselves duely and truly to observe lay out & mark
the sd Line according to the best of your art skill and knowl-
edge as well wth such Instrumt of theirs wch they shall for that
purpose bring with them (if you may be permitted) as with
such of your owne as you shall take with you from hence
for his Ldspps satisfaction.
4thly But fforasmuch as some scruples have been made by
severall the Inhabitants of Baltemore and Caecil Counties con-
cerning this Affaire, you are for the generall Satisfaction of
such persons to use all earnest & reasonable endeavours (soe
farr forth as may suite with modesty and his Ldspps honor) to
press that Governmt of Pensylvania to come and lay out the
Line.
5thly And the better to Enable you to effect this & proceed
in the Execution of yor Commission according to the Tenor of
these your Instructions, you are to require the Assistance of
the Sheriffs of Cecil and Baltemore Countyes for a provision
of horses and men boates and hands, and such other necessa-
ries as you shall desire, who are commanded to furnish yu
accordingly with Quantity and Quality as you shall see fitt or
the occasion may Require,
6thly And if in conclusion it shall be agreed betweene you
& the Governor of Pensylvania or other person or persons
thereunto appointed and empowered as aforesaid touching
the sd line or ffortieth degree of Northern Latitude as aforesaid,
then that the same be duely bounded and certified unto his
Ldspp by a publick Instrument under the hands and Scales as
