as aforesaid. Know Yee therefore that we reposeing spiall
trust and confidence in the Art, skill, knowledge ffidelity and
Circumspection of John Darnall, Clement Hill, Alexander
Dennett, & Robert Jones gentl have in obedience to his
Majties Commands Ordeined, constituted, appointed, Autho-
rised and Empowered, And by these presents Wee doe
Ordeine, constitute, appoint, Authorise and Empower the said

John Darnall, Clement Hill, Alexander Dennett, and Robert
Jones or any two or more of them to joine wth such person or
persons as shall be Authorised and Empowered by the sd
William Penn to take the true distance of Northern Latitude
whereby this Province is bounded as aforesaid and the same
when found and Determined to ascertain by such sufficient
durable markes and boundaries as to them shall seeme meete
to be made or sett up to remaine as such to posterity thereby
to prevent any future differences or Disputes that may arise
for or concerning the same, and to be certified unto us and
our Councill at the City of St Maries by the last day of June
next ensueing. And Wee doe hereby Desire that the sd John
Darnall, Clement Hill, Alexander Dennett, and Robert Jones,
or any two or more of them may be credited & beleived
promiseing to Ratifie confirme, approove and allow of for good
whatsoever shall be by them or any two or more of them done
in the premisses according to the tenorof this our Commission,
as effectually fully amply and largely to all intents and pur-
poses as if done immediately by Our Self. Given at our City
of St Maries under the greate Seale of our sd Province of
Maryland the Three and Twentyeth Day of May in the
Seaventh yeare of our Dominion over our sd Provinces &c"

Instructions for John Darnall, Clement Hill, Alexander
Dennett and Robert Jones gentl by vertue of a Commission
from the Rt honble the Lord Propry of this Province &ca beare-
ing Date with these presents, empowered to observe and lay
out the lyne of this Province being the ffourtieth degree of
Northern Latitude, (viz.)
Imp" You are by the first oportunity of Wind and weather
to sett saile directly for Mr Augustine Hermans house in
Bohemia River, and upon your arriveall there to enquire
whither Capt. Markham or other Govern" of Pensylvania
under William Penn Esqr or any other person or persons by
the said Governor appointed & empowered be there or there-
abouts in those parts, and in case you find noe such person
there then you are to order Augustine Herman or the Sheriff
of that County to dispatch away an express to Pensylvania to
