there And we doe by these presents appoint constitute and
Ordaine the said Wm Calvert to be Our Principall Officer and
keeper of the Acts and proceedings of Us and Our Council
there for the time being and of and for the Entring and
recording of all Grants by us or Our heirs to be made of any
Lands or Offices within Our said Province To have and to
hold execute and enjoy the said Office of Principall Secretary
together with the priviledges and benefitts aforesaid unto the
said Wm Calvert untill wee or Our heirs shall signifie Our or
their pleasure to the contrary and no longer Provided alwayes
that he take in Open Court in Our said province the Oath of
Our Secretary there before he sitt or act as Secretary in Our
said province to be likewise administred to him by us or any
two of Our Council there who are hereby impowered and
required to administer the same unto him (there) accord-

shall from time to time and at all times hereafter permitt and
suffer Our trusty and welbeloved Kinsman John Darnall Gent,
peaceably and quietly to hold enjoy and execute the place or
Office of Clerke of Calvert County Court in Our said Province
of Maryland together with the profitts thereunto belonging
Given under Our hand and great Seale of Our said Province of
Maryland the fifth day of April in the first yeare of Our
Dominion over Our said province of Maryland Annoq Dom

Charles Absolute Lord and Propryetary of the Provinces of
Maryland & Avalon Lord Baltemore &c To Our Dearely
beloved Unkle Phillip Calvert Esquire Our Chancellor of our
said Province of Maryland Greeting Whereas for the due
Administration of Justice it is most necessary that there be A
Succession from the dead to the liveing And that the wills of
all persons Dyeing who in theire life time doe make Wills
may be duely Proved And Letters of Administration of all
persons dyeing without Wills may be Granted to such Persons
who have the best right to succeed thereunto that there may
(in that Case) be noe failer of Justice but that it may be duely
Administred to all people within the said Province of Mary-
land Know therefore that we trusting in the Ability and Care
and Integrity of you our said Vnkle have Constituted and
Ordained And by this Our Comission doe Constitute and
Appoint you Our said Vnkle to be Our Judge or Comissary
