Know ye that we for the great Trust & Confidence we have
in yor fidelityes Circumspeccons Prudences & Wisdomes
have Constituted Ordeyned & Appointed & doe by these
prsents Constitute Ordeyne & Appoint you the said Tho:
Dent, John Jordaine, Wm Boarman, Gerard Slye, Richard
Loyd, John Warren, Wm Rossewell, Wm Hatton, Justinian
Gerard, Thomas Gerard, Joseph Pile & Joshua Doyne gentl.
Comissionrs joyntly & severally to keepe the Peace in St
Maryes County And to keep & cause to be kept all Lawes &
orders made for the good & Conservacon of the Peace, & for
the quiet rule & Governmt of the People in all & every the
Articles of the same And to Chastise & punish all Persons
Offending against the forme of any the Lawes & Orders of
our said Province or of any of them in St Maryes County
aforesaid as according to the forme of these Lawes & Orders
shall be fitt to be done We have also Constituted & Ordeyned
you & every foure or more of you of which you the said Tho:
Dent, John Jordaine, Wm Boarman & Gerard Slye (unlesse
some one of Councell be prsent) are also to be our Comissionrs
to Enquire by the Oaths of good & lawfull men of yor County
aforesaid of all manner of felonyes Witchcrafts Inchantmts
Sorceryes Magic Arts, Trespasses Forestallings Ingrossings
& Extorcons whatsoever And of all & singuler other misdeeds
& Offences of which Justices of the Peace in England may or
ought lawfully to Enquire by whomsoever or whensoever done
or ppetrated or which hereafter shall happen to be done or
ppetrated in the County aforesaid against the Lawes & Ordri
of our said Province. Provided you proceed not in any of the
cases aforesaid to take life or member But that in every such
Case you send the Prisonrs with their Indictmt & the whole
matter depending before you to the next Provincial Court to
be holden for our said Province whensoever or wheresoever to
be holden there to be Tryed And further we doe hereby
Authorize you to Issue writts Processes Arrests & Attachmts
to hold Plea of Oyer & Terminer & after Judgemt Execucon
to Award in all causes Civill whither in Accons Reall or Per-
sonall where the thing in Accon doth not Exceed the Value of
three Thousand pounds of Tobacco according to the Lawes
Orders & reasonable Customes made & used in our said
Province of Maryland In which causes Civill so to be Tryed
we doe Constitute Ordeyne & Appoint you Tho: Dent, John
Jordaine, Wm Boarman & Gerard Slye to be Judges as afore-
