then were produced by his Lspp and communicated to this
board the following Letters viz
May it please your Lspp:
Your Lspps Letter of the 29th of July lyes before me and in
obedience thereto shall vse my utmost endeavour for the
safety of the people of these parts God Almighty direct your
Lspp in all your Councills. It is generally thought that
George Godfrey at present my Leivetenant hath been tardy
in the raiseing of men for the release of ffendall, Coll Chan-
dler gives your Lspp accompt thereof. If your Lspp finds him
guilty I question not but his punishment will be answerable
to his Deserts, I have been a meanes to preferr him but doe
hope your Lspp will not impute any thing to me, my meaning
was good therein. I am resolved he shall never march
longer with me unless he cleares himself. It is reported that
if I would not be of their party they would disarme me, and
that the said Godfrey was the person appointed to head the
party, they doubted of their designe and soe Returned as I
have formerly advised; I am very well assured that I should
have found some that would have stood by me sufficient to
have putt a Stopp to such proceedings
