358 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1678-1679.
Lib. R. the premisses, and all and singular the premisses you heare
and Determine, and the same Doe and performe in manner
aforesaid, doeing therein what to Justice appertaineth accord-
ing to the Laws and Customs of England and of this Prov-
ince, Saveing to us our Amerciamts and other thinges from
thence to us ariseing or belonging, ffor wee have Commanded
the sheriffes of this our Province that at certain Daies and
places which you or any three of you (whereof you the said
Philip Calvert and William Calvert are alwaies to be One)
p. 182 they cause to come before you such and soe many honest and
lawfull men of this Province by whom the truth of the matter
may the better be knowne and Enquired after. In Testimony
whereof we have caused these our Letters to be made Pat-
tents. Witness Our Self at our City of St Maries the twen-
tieth Day of June in the sixth yeare of our Dominion over our
sd Province &c Annoq Domini One Thousand six hundred
Eighty & One.

At the same time the Councill did Declare and it was the
opinion of this board that if any Indians at any time presented
themselves to any English Plantation or appeared in the
woods painted they are (according to the Articles made with
the Pascattoways &c Anno 1666) to be Deemed as a Common
Enemy, and also if they appeare unpainted with Armes and
shall upon demand to lay downe their armes refuse soe to Doe
they are to be taken for Enemies & dealt withall accordingly.

Memdu. this should have preceeded the foregoing, and
should have been entred in fo: 177: but being there omitted is
here entred as followeth.

At a Councill held at St Peters the Chancelors house there
June 17th 1681 :

at which time produced by his Lspp and read to this board the
severall papers following viz

The 29th May 1681.

I have this Day recd: information from Jacob Young that
there is above two hundred Sinniquo Indians now upon their
