4. That whereas his Lopp hath often Directed that his Lt &
also his Surveyor Generall there should from time to time
Cause two Mannors at leaste to be layd out in Every County
of the sd Province & Reserved for the private use of his Lopp
& his heires Each Mannor to Conteyne 6000 Acres of good
Land at the leaste and that a pticuler of the said Mannors
should be from time to time sent to his Lopp in all which he
hath never yet Received any good satisfaction, notwthstanding
he lookes upon it as a thing of very greate Concernmt to him &
his posterity to have his Directions therein punctually observed,
his Lopp doth therefore hereby strictly Charge and Require
his said sonne to Cause satisfaction to be speedily given to
Lib. R. R.
his Lopp therein, and to Cause the said Mannors to be duly &
Exactly Recorded in the Secretaryes office in Maryland and a
true Coppy thereof sent to his Lopp and that no pt of the sd
Mannors be Disposed of till his Lopp after he hath Received
true pticulers of them shall give speciall ordr therein. Given
undr his Lopps hand & lesser Seale at Armes this 14th day of
December 1673

C. Balte- Cecilus &c To our Lt & other officers in Maryland
more and to all others whom it may Concerne Greeting
Know yee that wee Reposing Especiall Trust & Confidence
in the wisedome Dilligence Experience and ffidelity of or
Trusty and Deare Nephew William Calvert Esqr have Consti-
tuted apointed & ordained, and by these prsents doe Consti-
tute appointe & ordaine him the said William Calvert to be
or Principall Secretary of or sd Province of Maryland, and to
have all such priviledges & benefits as belongeth to or Princi-
pall Secretary there. And wee doe by these prsents apointe
Constitute and ordaine the said William Calvert to be or
Principal officer and Keep of the acts and proceedings of us
and or Lt & Councell there for the time being and of and for
the Entring & Recording of all graunts by us or our heires
to be made of any Lands or offices within the said Province
of Maryland. To have and to hould Execute and Enjoy the
said office of Principal Secretary Together with the priviledges
& benefits aforesayd unto the said William Calvert untill wee
or our heires shall signify our or their pleasure on the
Contrary and no longer. Provided alwayes that he take in
open Cort in or sd Province the oath of or Secretary there
before he sit or Act as Secretary in or said Province to be
likewise Administred unto him by or said Leivetennant or any
