By the Lord Propry & Councill
May 26th Whereas Divers fforreigne Indians have lately made
1680 some Incursions into Baltemore County, and have
assaulted severall the Inhabitants there to the greate terror and
amazemt of all the said Inhabitants, who are but a small num-
ber and unable to Defend themselves if any greate attempt
should be made upon them; It is therefore ordered that at
what time soever Coll George Wells Commandr in Chiefe of
all his Lspps ffoote Militia in sd County shall have occasion to
apply himself to you Coll William Burges for Assistance you
forthwith Supply him with such a number of able men out of
your County and Regiment as he shall Desire, and the occa-
sion may require. Whereof you are not to faile.

Sr Yours of the 20th instant with other Papers Inclosed
from Capt Waterton and Thomas Richardson I recd: relateing
all to the late unwellcome Rencounter with the Indians, for
your care in adviseing I give you thankes, but cann make
nothing of the others from Waterton and Richardson, the
former of whom hath soe rashly and unadvisedly pceeded that
I cannot but highly resent, and therefore Desire yu to Demand
of him an Accompt by what Power he hath soe Done accord-
ingly as you are directed by the Inclosed ordr of Councill wch
will be yr further guide in the managemt of affaires at prsent
as they now stand, wch pray follow and observe, I have like-
wise sent you power to press Boate and hands to come down
to Mattapony and to convey to you some supplyes of Armes
and Ammunition for Defence of your County, the same you
are to Distribute among the Inhabitants & take a particular
Accot thereof and to whom disposed that they may reimburse
