him notice and cause him to renew the sd Alarme again with
three gunns as aforesaid and soe to continue it from house to
house through out the hundred that all psons may have notice
and the next Comission officer to the house where the Alarme
first begann shall with all speed by Land or water with what
men he can raise goe to the aforesaid house and enquire the
Lib. R.
occasion of the Alarme and yeld releife if it be wanting and
with all possible speed acquaint the Commandr in chiefe of
the hundred that he may acquaint the adjacent Hundred and
take what further care the Emergency of the affaires require,
and all psons are required to have their Armes and Ammuni-
tion in a readiness and to be at an houres warning as the Act
of Assembly in that case does provide with provisions neces-
sary. Given undr our hands at our Court house in Baltemore
County the 22th of May in the ffourth yeare of the Dominion
of the Rtt Honble Charles &ca Annoq Domini 1679:

May it please yor Lspp:
I have been informed of Late that when Mrs Pewey lived
at the upper plantations the Northern Indians came to her &
give a present to be sent to yr Lspp: wch through ignorance or
'ishonesty was converted to her owne vse also another time
the like wch abuses I am apt to beleive your Lspps Province has
dearely paid for, and doe beleive if your Lspp would be pleased
to appoint an Interpreter who should make it his onely busi-
ness to keepe a fair correspondency betweene your Lspp and
those Northern Indians it would conduce much to the peace
and wellfare of your Lspps Province, ffor the prosperity of which
and your Lspp I pray God and Remaine as in Duty

The Inclosed I feare brings bad news to yr Lspp: Coll Burges
and my Self being together this morning supposeing the
Inclosed to come from Coll Wells, and knowing the Indians
being on their Returne home thought there might be some-
thing Concerning the prsent affaires of their Indian Travell,
& fearing it soe opened it, & have Immediately dispatched
the Post away to yr Lspp: We have nothing more, all at prsent
is well here, but some care must be taken in Baltemore, wch I
conceive must be by sending to Jacob Young that wee may
with speed speake with their greate men before the fire blaze
out too much, if not I know what must follow an Intestine
