Lib. R. rash unadvised Actions of foolish people, I have sent to give
notice to all your Lspps Officers within this County to warne
yor Lspps people to stand upon their guard in a Defensive
manner, but by noe meanes to offer any Offence, and what
power Mr Waterton does assume to himself I know not sure
I am he has none from me to March or to raise men to March
neither have I as yett recd: any from yor Lsrp to that purpose,
but it is like him and those of his Company who are forward
to their owne ruine to create an Enemy though weake and
unable to withstand him as by the Inclosed to your Lspp may
appeare, I beseech yor Lspp to send releife if it be but your
Lspps advice wch gives life to all our Actions, and without wch
we cannot stand nor moove, the want of Ammunition will be
a discouragemt to many familyes of this your Lspps County that
are both able & willing to purchase if it were to be sold.
What yor Lspp: has been pleased to entrust in my hands is the
greatest part with the Armes ready at yor Lspps Command.
The Ill events of this rash unadvised Action I leave to the
Consideration of your Lspp: and as soone as the truth in every
respect can be had yor Lspp: shall receive Intelligence. I have

Impertinence I Subscribe as in Duty.

of the Province of Maryland
These with haste post haste humbly prsent.

Whereas we have had of late a murder perpetrated in
Gunnpowdr River and two attempts made on the Inhabitants
of Bush River by Indians at every of wch there has been
greate remissness in answering of the Alarm, by the adjacent
Neighbours to the encouragemt of the Enemy & trouble to
Officers besides makes us slow of motion These are there-
fore in the name of the Rtt Honble the Lord Propry to will and
require or other waies strictly to charge and command all
psons resideing in the County of Baltemore upon pain and
perill that shall fall thereon that they fire not above one gunn
at a time, and that convenient distance be betweene every
Gunn of at least half an hour unless occasion of Alarme
happen wch every one is to make upon the approach of any
Indians or fresh Discovery. We as yett not knowing who is
our ffriends and who is not, by fireing off three gunns distinctly
the one after the other all within the space of a quarter of an
hour and all psons are required as aforesaid to answer the
same with one good gunn well charged and he that soe
answereth if his neighbour doe not answer him whereby he
may judge he heard not the Alarme shall with all speed give
