Coll George Wells to the Rtt Honble the Lord Propry with two
others Inclosed from John Waterton and Thomas Richardson
directed to said Coll Wells concerning some late disturbances
& alarme given p some Indians in Baltemore County, and
were altogether inclosed in a Letter from Coll Tailler of Anne
Arrundell County; The said severall Letters are as follow in
ordr viz.
May the 19th Day 1680:
Noble Capt
This Day came Indians to my house and assaulted my
Brother and me, and while they were a strugling with my
Brother I shott one of them downe, and they see him fall, and
they withdrew and runn away and left a gunn and a sword,
and a Bow and arrowes, and a matchcoate, and if we had
help speedily Wee might pursue them and meete with them,
not else at prsent. I Thomas Richardson

Coll Wells
Yesterday about noone was an alarme in this River but soe
confused that I knew not what to make of it, wch I conceive
was for want of powdr at Sunn sett I recd: this note from
Thomas Richardson, for John Bird heareing those gunns,
went over the Creeke to see what was the matter, and as he
came from Thomas Richardsons he found a greate deale of
blood, soe that its thought there is one wounded, the note I
recd: about Sunnsett, I went away immediately over the River
to raise men, but I found they were all in danger for John

Bird had a Dog come home from about his Cowpen shott in
one of his Leggs, he heard him barkeing thereabouts a Little
before but thought he might Bark at Squirrells soe made noe
Accompt thereof untill he came home wounded, ammunicon
is here much wanted, and in my Judgemt better distributed
to housekeepers that may make good the same at Shipping
time, then to be kept decaying, I expect you will send some
in this time of Danger, else noe man can be expected to
march after the Indians or Defend themselves, I am now
raiseing men to see if we can find the Indians for if one
wounded we may phapps meete with him.
