the good People resideing in or passing through the same to
whom these presents shall come greeteing.
Whereas the Emperour and greate men of Pascattoway in
behalf of himself and the Indians undr his Subjection, and of
other the severall Townes and Nations of our Neighbour
Indians, being very desirous to conclude and confirme a
generall peace with all the Northern Indians Senniquos and
Susquesahannohs, have sollicited and besought of us Liberty
soe to doe, and also Supplicated Our Letters Testimoniall of
our consent thereunto, granting a free pass to their Agents
Nicotaucht, and Toetongewas two men & Nicotenaus a
Lib. R.
woman quiettly to pass and repass through the severall
Counties & parts of this Our Province in their Journey to the
Mattwas Indians whither they are designed in ordr to obteine
their aid and assistance in accomplish the said peace for them.
Know yee therefore that wee haveing advised with our Coun-
cill and fully consulted the premisses, considering the same
to be of great moment and Concern to this Our Province,
conduceing much to the good and wellfare, peace and quiett
of the Inhabitants thereof, Doe (by and with the advice and
consent of our said Councill) by these Our Lres Testimoniall
Signifie and Declare our free Consent thereunto, and there-
fore doe hereby give free Liberty to the said Nicotaucht,
Toetongewas, and Nicotenaus, to pass and repass any part or
place of this Our Province, Desireing as also willing and
requireing all and singular Our Officers civill and Military
within this Our Province, and others the good people as
aforesaid to Suffer and pmitt the said Indians soe to doe
without any Lett hinderance or Molestation, vseing noe man-
ner of hostility or evill carridge whatsoever to the said Indians,
but affording them all civill treatement & ffriendly kindness,
with all possible aid and assistance in their passage over
Creekes Rivers or Bayes where it shall be needfull for their
more easie and speedy passage to and from their said
Intended Journey.
Given undr our hand and Seale at Armes the first Day of
Aprill in the 5th yeare of Our Dominion &ca Annoq Dmi. 1680.
