At wch Time and place the Emperor and greate men of Pas-
cattoway came to acquaint his Lspp: that they had a greate
desire to make a peace with all the Northern Indians both
Sinnequos and Susquesahawnoks and to that End had pre-
pared severall presents wherewith they designed to send
some Agents of theirs to the Mattwas Indians to desire their
assistance in the same.
But noe Interpreter being prsent save onely a Choptico
Indian that could speake a little English his Lspp and Councill
waved further discourseing with them till the next day at wch
time Thomas Baker of Charles County was commanded to
give his attendance in the words foll, (viz)
By the Lord Propry and Councill
Maryland ss.
Ordered that Thomas Baker of Charles County (all excuses
sett apart) be and psonally appeare before his Lspp and the
Councill at Notley Hall on Wiccocomico River to morrow
morning being the first of Aprill there to serve as Interpreter
berweene his said Lspp: and Council], and the Pascattoway
Indians in matters concerning the state of the Province
Whereof he is not to faile Dated the 31th Day of March in
the 5th yeare of his Lspps Dominion &ca Annoq Domini 1680:

Warrant directed to Mr Robert Doyne of Charles County
to press man and horse or other Conveniency for conveyance
of the above ordr according to directions viz:

You are hereby Authorised and empowered, as also willed
and required to press a man and horse or other conveniency
for the speedy conveyance of an ordr of Councill herewith
delivered you directed unto Thomas Baker of Charles County
with all expedition whereof faile not, and for soe doeing this
