Wiccocomico River the 29th Day of Aprill in the fourth yeare
of his said Lspps: Dominion &ca over this Province Annoq

These.

Mr Henry Brent of Stafford County in the Collony of Virginia
haveing taken his Oath upon the holy Evangelist of Almighty
God Deposeth as foll: viz.
That About the Eleaventh Day of March last to the best of
his remembrance being at the house of Collonell George
Mason in the County & Collony aforesd (being also there
present the said Coll. George Mason Capt Edward Blagg,
Mr Edward Thomson Mr Isaac Mason & Capt. William Nick-
ley Comandr of the Shipp ffrancis and Mary of Bristoll) He
this Deponent heard the said Nicklas then & there say that my
Lord Balternore was a Traytour, and that he the sd Nicklas
heard him soe proclaimed at the Toalse of Bristoll, that
severall Mars of Shipps, did report they would not cleare with
my Lord Balternore but would goe & pay their Dutyes in
England because they would not pay money they said to any
Traytor whereupon Capt Edward Blagg asked the said Nicklas
what he intended whither he would cleare or not To wch the
sd Nicklas with a nod of his head & cast of his hands Did
seeme to Intimate that he would not, But the said Blagg
replied again that he had entred with his Lspps. power and
would by the grace of God cleare with the same, The sd
Nicklas then tooke a Cupp & begann a health to the Duke of
Monmouth as Propry of this Countrey, saying tht my Lord
Balternore as a traytor haveing fforfetted his Countrey none
more fitt to be Propry then the Duke of Monmouth, & further
this Depont saith not.
