Complt from the Comrs
Dorchester County. Stephen Gary in roome of Capt

Complaint haveing been made to his Lspp: that there is a
pson in Somersett County who (haveing a warrant to take
up some Land in sd County hath laid out and is intended to
seate among the Indians upon the Land where they now live
to the greate annoyance and Dissatisfaction of the said
Indians who Desire to live among themselves without Dis-
turbance. It is therefore Ordered that Proclamation issue
forth phibiting all psons whatsoever to seate upon any land
where any of Our Neighbour Indians are actually seated or
soe neere to them as to annoy or Disturb them without
further Ordr from his Lspp and his Councell.
His Lspp and the Councell haveing been informed that there
is an Indian lately come to the Pascattoway ffort from the
Sinniquas doe resolve to Deferr giveing any positive answer
to the Pascattoway Indians concerning Wassetass (whose life
they had earnestly requested his Lspp: to spare) untill such
time as they should first have some Discourse with the sd
Indian of the Sinniquas in ordr to their better undrstanding
the present posture and condition of the said Indians. But
upon further consideration it was Concluded & advised by
the whole Councell Nemine contradicente that if the Pascatta-
way Indians should be further earnest and importunate with
his Lspp: for the life of Wassetass, that then his Lspp would
please to extend his mercy to him in giveing him his life at
their request.
Ordered that notice be given to the Pascattoway Indians by
James Smallwood of Charles County that his Lspp and the
Councell will be at the Governors house on Munday or Tues-
day next where they Desire to speake with the Indian that
lately came from the Senniquas, Who they Desire to come
thither at the time appointed, and that in ordr to the confer-
ence Thomas Baker of Charles County (if he be able to come)
be required to give his attendance there as Interpreter, and
in case of his not being able to come then that Major Wm
Boareman be Desired to be there at the time preefixed.
