216 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1678-1679.
Lib. R. R. Comissionrs secured and reserved onely for the Countreys
service And that such as have not been duely paid for and
satisfied may be returned to their right owners An accompt
whereof the Comissionrs of our respective County Courts
are (in convenient time and from time to time when and as
often as they shall make any discovery of any such Gunns
Armes &c. as aforesaid To render unto us or our Lieut
Generall or Chiefe Governor for the time being Whereof all
persons concerned are to take due notice as they will answer
the Contrary att their perill Wittnes our selfe att our Citty
of Sf Maryes Given under our Create Seale of our said
Province the Eighth day of January in the ffourth yeare of
our Dominion &c. Annoq Domini One thousand six hun-
dred Seventy Eight.

Charles &c To William Stevens, William Colebourne John
White, Thomas Walker, George Johnson, John Windar,
Charles Ballard, David Browne, James Dashield, William
Jones, ffrancis Jenkins, William Brereton, Roger Walford and
Wm Ennis of Somersett County Gentl greeting in our Lord
God Everlasting Know ye that wee considering with our selfe
that this Our Province Depends wholly upon trade, and that
wee have not as yett money coine amongst the People here
Inhabiting to carry on trade, soe that the Marchant and
Planter are both forced to make many debts which causeth
many suites att Law, as alsoe that speedy Justice in the
Recovery of Debts is therefore the life of all trade, wee have
assigned you the said Wm Stevens, Wm Colebourne, John
White, Thomas Walker, George Johnson, John Winder
Charles Ballard David Browne James Dashield, Wm Jones,
ffrancis Jenkins, Wm Brereton Roger Wolford Wm Ennis or
any foure or more of you (whereof you the said William Ste-
vens, Wm Colebourne, John White Thomas Walker or George
Johnson are alwaies to be One) Justices within Our said
County of Somersett to heare and determine all causes or
Accons of debts- whether by bill bond or Accompt or trespas
upon the Case ariseing upon Accompt according to the Lawes
and Customes of this Our Province of Maryland, And there-
fore wee comand you that at the Certaine days settled by the
Law of this Our Province for holding Courts in your said
County the said Actions you enquire into heare and deter-
mine and after judgment Execucon to award doing therein
what to Justice appertaineth according to the Lawes and
reasonable Customes of this Our Province, saveing to us the
