hope that the same reciprocall ffriendshipp did still remaine
as at his Departure & undrstanding by his Governors and
Councell that they were Desirous to speake with him in rela-
tion to a late Rencounter betweene them and the Susquehan-
nahs, & that they had something to propound to his Ldspp for
their owne Security against fforreigne Indians, that he was
now ready to receive their ppositions would consider of them
& give them a good answer.
That after the said Conference with the said Indians his
Lspp will then be in a better condition to take his just measures
in relation to the said Murderrs wch at the next meeteing of the
Councell his Lspp may conclude on

Articles of Peace and Amity Concluded & agreed upon
betweene the Rtt Honble Charles Lord Baltemore Lord &
Propry of this Province &ca and the Emperor of Assateague, the
Kings of Pokomoke Yingoteague Nuswattax, Annamesse &
Acquintica, Morumsco & for all the Indians undr their Sub-
jection this 13th Day of Decemb: 1678:
It is agreed that from this Day forward there be an
Imprs Inviolable peace & Amity betweene the Rtt Honble the
Lord Propry of this Province & the Emperor of Assateague the
Kings of Pokomoke, Yingoteague, Muswattax, Anamessex,
Acquintica, Morumsco, and for all the Indians undr their Sub-
jection, upon the Articles hereafter in this treaty to be agreed
upon to the worlds End to Endure, and that all former Acts
of hostility and Damages for either pty susteined to be buried
in perpetuall Oblivion.
2dly That the said Emperor of Assateague, and the Kings
before mentioned shall deliver up all Indians that shall come
into his or their Dominions that are or shall be Enemys to the
English, and further that if any Indian Subject to the said
Emperor and Kings before Specified shall hereafter kill any
English man, that the said Emperor and Kings aforesaid shall
be obleiged to deliver such Indian up to the Governor of this
Province as a Prisoner.
3dly fforasmuch as the English cannot easily distinguish one
Indian from another, that noe Indian shall come into any
English Plantation painted, and that all Indians shall be bound
to call aloud, before they come within 300 paces of any Eng-
glish mans cleare ground & lay downe their Armes, whither
Gunns, Bows or Arrows or other weapon for any English man
that shall appeare upon his call to take up, and in case no one
appeare, that he there shall leave his said Armes, if he come
