Where came before them Robert Leshley and Elizabeth his
wife according to appointmt by reason of a Peticon exhibited
p the sd Robert to the Governor and the Governors warrant
thereupon Dated the 5th instant, wch said Peticon & warrant
foll: in ordr viz.

To the Honble Thomas Notley Esqr Ltt Genll & Chiefe Gov-
ernor of Maryland
The humble Peticon of Robert Leshley Humbly Sheweth
That yor Peticoners wife being a woman of an Implacable
turbulent Spiritt has at severall times unjustly & wrongfully
made Divers complaints and Accusations against yor Petr
before severall of his Lopps Justices of the peace of Calvert
County but finding they tooke not the effect she hoped for,
and that her Designe of procureing a considersable part of yor
Petrs Estate to be allowed her for a maintenance with which
she might live at her pleasure where she listed and quite
Desert the ffamily and concerns of yor Petr was wholly frus-
trated, she hath since very falsly injuriously & malitiously
accused yor Petr of Buggery to the greate scandall & irre-
parable prejudice of yor Petrs creditt and reputation wch he
Does & alwaies shall Esteeme of greater price & value then
his Life.
Wherefore yor Peticoner humbly prayeth, that yor Honor
will be gratiously pleased to grant him a Warrant, that she
may be brought before yor Honor and her complaints & accu-
sations against yor Petr heard and Examined before yor Honor
whereby your yor Petr may purge and cleanse himself of that
grevious scandall cast upon him and that for the future he
may live more peaceably & comfortably either with his said
Wife or by allowing her such a maintenance as yor Honor
shall ordr and Command
And as in Duty bound he shall ever pray &ca

The Governors warrant thereupon was Endorsed on the
back side of the Peticon and is as foll. viz.

The matter alleadged by the Petr being of more then Ordi-
nary concern, I recommend the same to the Examination of
my self and his Lopps: Councell, and Doe hereby will &
require you James Rumsey that you apprehend Elizabeth
Leshley the Petrs wife and have her Body before my self and

p. 55 his Lopps Councell at the Citie of St Maries on the ffour &
Twentieth Day of this instant October next ensueing when &
where you are also to bring with you the within Peticon.
Whereof faile not. And for soe Doeing this shall be your
sufficient warrant. Given undr my hand and Seale this ffifth
