Was then produced & read a Lettr from Augustin Herman
to the Chancelor setting forth the great Damage and injury
the Inhabitants in Baltemore and Caecill Counties doe daily
receive p the Delaware Indians driveing away and killing
their Stocks, the said Indians pretending that most of the
Land in the upper ps of the sd Counties doth properly belong
to them, The Summe whereof being Duely considered It was
ordred,
That Augustin Herman and Jacob Young be Empowred p
Commisso from the Governor to treate with the said Indians
touching the pretence they make to the land in the said two
Counties as to what part of the Land in both or either of the
said two Counties they make claime to And what Satisfaction
they require to quitt such their claime thereto. An Accot
whereof that they the said Augustin Herman and Jacob
Young rendr to the Governor and Councell with all Expedi-
tion possible and as conveniently they cann.
The Common Rumor that the Sinnequo Indians (by Insti-
gation of the Remaineing pt of the Susquesahannoghs now
amongst them) are Designed to come downe and make
warr upon the Pascattoway Indians toward the Latter End of
this Summer wch the sd Pascattoway Indians doe verily beleive
and suspect, being taken into consideration it was Ordred,
That Jacob Young be Empowered to goe to the Old Sus-
quehannoh ffort and to treate with the great men of the Sin-
nequos Nations touching the said Rumor according to such
ordrs and Instructions as he should receive from the Governor
relateing thereunto
In pursuance whereof the Honble Thomas Notley Esqr did
Empower the said Jacob Young p his Instructions undr hand
and Seale to goe accordingly to the Old Susqh ffort and
address himself to the greate men of the Sinnequo Nations,
and p prsents or otherwise according to their Custom to
Remind them of the League wch they latly Entred into with
us and our ffriend Indians in wch number the Pascattoways
were then by name included and soe long as they continue
our ffriends we are bound to protect and Defend them, and
therefore we hope that the Sinnequos will not violate their
League with us by useing any Acts of Warr or Hostility
Against the said Pascattoways or any other our ffriend
Indians without just cause given and haveing first made us
