Whereas I am given to understand by a letter received
from Capt Thomas Walker high Sheriffe of Somrsett County,
as also by the deposicon of Wm Keene of the same County
that there is lately a barberous murder coffiitted by some
Indians att the house of David Williams of the said County
upon himselfe & his whole ffamily These are therefore to will
& require as also strictly to charge & comand you Col Wm
Coleborne Comandr in chiefe of all his Lordpps foote militia in
the County of Somrsett aforesaid, upon sight hereof (if occa-
sion shall require to sumon all the forces of the said County
under your comand to be in readines well & compleatly fixed
for the defence & safeguard of your County att an houres
warning upon paine of death And if you shall see just reason
& occasion requires more men & amunition for the defence
& safeguard of yor County then yor County of itt selfe can
procure Signifie the same to me together with what quantity
of men Armes & Amunition more the defence & safeguard of
your County shall require with all expedition, & itt shall upon
first notice given by you be provided & sent to you for your
