A Proclamacon

Whereas the severall Clerkes of the respective Countyes
within this Province have formerly bin very negligent in their
severall Offices, by omitting (contrary to the duty of their
places & the Lawes of this Province) to transmitt into the
Secretaryes Office all such Alienacon of lands as are entred
upon Record on the Severall County Court bookes, not only
to the great damage & prejudice of his Lordpp the Lord
Propry of this Province in his rents & ffines for Alienacon, but
also to the great confusion in the Rent Rolls of the respective
Countyes, so that his Lordpp cannot many tymes come to the
knowledge of the tenants by which meanes in tyme itt may
worke a greater mischief if previous remedy be not applyed
These are therefore (by & with the advice consent & appro-
bacon of his Lordpps Councell) to will require & comand the
respective Justices of peace in each respective County imedi-

atly after the publicacon hereof, that they order the Clerkes
of their respective Countyes fairly to transcribe from the
Record booke an Extract of all such Alienacons of land as
have att any tyme heretofore been entred upon the Record
booke of the County & as yett not transcribed & remitted to
to the Secretaryes Office And the same Alienacons so tran-
scribed & extracted to transmitt into the Secrys Office of this
Province by the first day of July next ensueing the date of
this Proclamacon To the end that the Secry of this Province
& his Lordpps Receivers genll may make out a compleat rent
roll for each County And every Clerke that shall refuse to
transcribe & transmitt such Extract of the Alienacons as
aforesaid after notice or comand given him by the Justices of
the County shall not only loose his Clerkeshipp of the County
where he officiates, but shall likewise be lyable to all such pen-
altyes & fines as the Lawes of this Province in case of such
neglects have provided And the Justices of each respective
County or any three or more of them are hereby (by & with
the advice & consent aforesaid) willed & required to make
strict Inquisicon whether the Clerkes of their respective
Countyes have (according to the tenor of a certaine Act of
Assembly made the last Sessions of Assembly & within the
tyme therein lymitted) fairely transcribed into a book all &
singuler the Lawes of this Province then in force, as by the
said Act they are required An accot whereof under their hands
& Seales they are to render unto the Lievt genll att or before
the last day of the next Provinciall Court which shall be held
in Aprill next ensueing To the end that all such Clerkes that
have been omissive & negligent in their office may be pro-
ceeded against according to the tenor of the said Act And
