12 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1671-1675.
Lib. R. R. Item wee doe hereby require and strictly Enjoyne you to
cause frequent Musters to be made of all the severall Trained
bands Soldiers and Militia of our said Province within the
severall and Respective Countyes of our said Province so
often as with Conveniency the same may be, and that all
psons capable of bearing Armes may be Trained up to the
use and Exercise of Armes, and that all ffreemen & Masters
be Enjoyned to furnish themselves with sufficient Armes and
Amunition for themselves and all their servants capable of
bearing Armes and to have the same alwayes in Readines
and upon sound of Trumpet or beate of Drum to appeare at
all times for the Defence of our said Province, and of them-
selves and their Estates and fortunes and in this wee doe more
pticulerly require your Dilligence in Reguard of the prsent
warrs declared agt the English nation in all parts by the
ffrench King and the united Provinces of the Netherlands and
for the particuler care and Tendernes wch wee have for the
security and safety of the people of our said Province.
Item that you give Directions pticulerly to our prsent
Principall Secretary of our said Province to the same Effect as
formerly wee Directed you to doe to Henry Sewall Esqr
deceased our late Principall Secretary in Relacon to the strict
and due Entryes of bills of lading and taking bonds of shipps
Coming to our said Province and in Relation to Shipps Trad-
ing in or said Province, and to Comend the aforesayd instruc-
tions to be in all points duly observed, taking care to Returne
Coppyes of the said bonds as formerly you have used by our
Directions to doe.
Item that you doe Deliver with your owne hands unto our
Deare Brother Philip Calvert Esqr our Greate Seale of our said
Province, and Administer unto him the oath annexed unto
these prsents by us appointed to be Administred unto and
taken by or Chancelour of our said Province, upon the Taking
of wch said oath and the Delivery of which said Seale unto
him, wee doe hereby Constitute and Ordaine him to be Chan-
celor of our said Province and wee doe hereby direct authorise
and apoint you to declare him to be so accordingly and wee
doe hereby declare that the Delivery of our said Seale by us
or our Leivetennant of our said Province for the time being
or his sufficient Deputy or Deputyes in his absence and by
p. 8 our pticuler and Expresse Direction order or authority under
our hand and Seale shalbe sufficient upon the Taking of
such oath to Constitute our Chancelour of our said Province,
and tht wee doe not intend either by Comission or any other
way for the future to Constitute any Chancelour of our said
Province.
