Charles Absolute Lord and Proprietary of the Provinces of
Maryland and Avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore &c To Our
trusty & welbeloved Jesse Wharton Esqr Our Deputy Leiv-
tenant and Deputy Governour of Our said province of Mary-
land and of the Dominions and Territories thereunto belong-
ing under Our dearly beloved Sonn Cecilius Calvert Esqr Our
Leivtenant Generall and Cheife Governour of Our said prov-
ince. And to all others of Our said province of Maryland,
and of the Dominions and Territories aforesaid Greeting
Know yee that wee have constituted assigned and appointed
and doe by these presents constitute assigne and appoint Our
Deare Unckle Philip Calvert Esqr Our Chancellour of Our

said province, Our deare Couzin William Calvert Esqr Our
principall Secretary of Our said province Our deare Couzin
Baker Brooke Esqr Our Surveyr Generall of Our said prov-
ince Our trusty and welbeloved Henry Coursey Esqr Our
trusty and welbeloved Samuel Chew Esqr and Our trusty and
welbeloved Thomas Taillour Esqr to be Our Privy Councel-
lours and to be of Our private secrett and continuall Councell
to us and to Our Deputy Leivtenant and Deputy Governour
for the time being of Our said province for and in relation to
all affairs of State, and for and in relation to the makeing
of Peace and Warr and the good Governance and ordering
of all Our affairs relateing to Our said Province dureing our
pleasure And wee doe further assigne constitute and appoint
that they the said Philip Calvert William Calvert Baker
Brooke Henry Coursey Samuel Chew and Thomas Taillour
or any three or more of them (of which wee will that Our said
Chancellour or Our said Principall Secretary shall be One)
shall in Our absence together with Our Deputy Leivtenant
and Deputy Governour for the time being of Our said prov-
ince be a full Sufficient and compleate Councell for the ends
and purposes aforesaid. Willing and by these prsents require-
ing and firmly enjoyning all persons of Our said province and
Dominions aforesaid that in all things relateing to the prem-
isses they give Obedience unto Our said Councell, and to all
such Orders and Comands as shall from time to time be made
and given by Our said Councell or any three or more of them
(of which Our said Chancellour and principall Secretary or
One of them to be one) by and with the consent and appro-
bation of us or of Our Deputy Leivtenant and Deputy
Comander of Our said province for the time being, so as such
Orders and Comands be consonant to reason and be not
repugnant or contrary to the Lawes of Our said province nor
repugnant or contrary unto but as neere as conveniently may
