had made the Arrangement of Officers, they inform'd me
from the instructions they had received from the State, they
could not Promote me to the rank I ask'd of them, not know-
ing that I bore a Commission in the Army, or bore any par-
ticular Rank. After I made it appear to the Commissinors
that I bore a Commission, they told me they should have a
Battallion oppen for your Honours to fill up, that they made
not the least doubt but I should get the Post I ask from the
recommendations they had recd in my favor. Shall be glad
you'l apply to the Commissinors for the recommendations in
my favor, if sufficient, and I am thought to merit the Post I
ask, by your Honors, I shall be happy to continue in the Ser-
vice of my Country — if I am Honord with a Commission
should be glad it could be settled as soon as Convenient, as
the Battallion may have an equal- chance with the rest in
recruiting. I am, Gent, with respect,
